Final Fantasy XI Classes
Base Jobs
When you first create a character, you start off with the option of choosing
from 6 different jobs. You can switch from one job to another at any point in
time simply by heading to your moogle home and speaking with the moogle there.
He gives you the option of changing your main job, and your support job. A support
job is technically a second job which you can have simoultaneously alongside
your main job. There are however restrictions to prevent you from becoming overly
powerful. They are as follows:
- You must be level 18, and have completed the Elder Memories quest.
- You gain all Job Abilities and Passive Abilities of your support job with
the exception of the 2 Hour Ability.
- Your subjob does not effect the weapons and armor you can equip, that is
still based on your main job.
- The maximum level your support job can be is half of your current main job.
With that said, there are definately advantages. For one, as mentioned you
gain all job and passive abilities of your subjob. Also, you gain additional
stats in your main attributes, as well as more HP and MP. The way the level
works is if you're currently a Warrior and he's level 30, and your White Mage
is level 30 but that's chosen as your subjob, then you would be a Level 30 Warrior
/ Level 15 White Mage. It automatically reduces the level of your Subjob temporarily
to half that of your main job.
The following jobs are available to you upon starting the game.
| Warrior |
The warrior is just that, a warrior. Equipped heavily with
weapons and armor, and heavily trained in their use, the warrior class is
meant to take and deal out damage in equal amounts. Lacking in the area
of magic and agility, the warrior makes up for this with increased vitality
and strength. |
| Monk |
The monk is the master of hand-to-hand combat. Monks sacrifice
weapons and heavy armor for increased vitality and mobility. Using their
bodies as weapons, monks are able to deliver powerful attacks quickly and
with deadly accuracy. |
| Thief |
The Thief is the universal shady criminal. The Thief is the
master of hiding, pick pocketing, backstabbing, and everything society tries
to keep out. Thieves are known for their luck at finding hidden items and
Gil that others may overlook. |
| Black Mage |
The Black Mage is the pure offensive spell caster of Vana'diel.
The Black Mage's main goal is to inflict large amounts of damage, while
taking as few hits as possible. The Black Mage is mainly self-sufficient,
and their usual goal is to simply gain access to new stronger, more devastating
spells. |
| Red Mage |
The Red Mage is a mixture of abilities funneled into a very
unique class. If the Red Mage was to be described in one word, it would
be versatile. The Red Mage is decent at most aspects of combat, and great
at none. The Red Mage is able to access both spells from the White, and
Black Mage line. Not only does the Red Mage get a variety of spells, they
are also able to equip light weapons and armor for increased melee capability.
|
| White Mage |
White Mages are the healers of Vana'diel. The White Mage
is a master of the holy arts. They use their powers for the good of their
fellows. While offense is not their strong point, they are trained to hone
the skills of those fighting along their sides, as well as a few tactics
of self-defense. |
Advanced Jobs
Advanced jobs come into play much later in the game. In order to become any
of the following, you must first prove yourself by becoming at least level 30.
Once you've proven your strength, various NPCs accross the world will teach
you the ways of the hidden jobs as long as you complete a task. Each job has
a different quest, so be prepared for long and difficult journeys. Details on
who and how to obtain these jobs are in the following job pages. The jobs available
are as follows:
| Bard |
The mystical musician of Vana'diel, the bard's weapon is his voice and
his instruments. The bard is a master of music. Bards use their music to
lift the spirits of those around them to increase their abilities in combat.
Bards also use the power of sound to deal damage to those that oppose them. |
| Beastmaster |
The beastmaster is known for his powers over animals. Beastmasters are
able to soothe and train wild creatures to fight by their side. As beastmasters
gain skill, they gain more power over the animals they control, and more
abilities to use on these pets in combat. |
| Dark Knight |
The Dark Knight is the mirror image of a Paladin. Dark Knights, while
not so much as 'Evil' are focused on the destruction of life and means of
death. They study ways to increase their damage by use of spells and other
things. |
| Dragoon |
Also known as Dragon Knights, Dragoons are a unique type of Melee warrior.
Dragoons master the arts of the spear, and jump techniques that amplify
damage by their spears. Dragoons are also capable of summoning small dragons,
or Wyverns, to assist them in battle. |
| Ninja |
The Ninja is a quick and agile fighter. The Ninja uses its dexterity to
be able to wield two weapons at once. Ninja's use the art of Ninjitsu to
amplify their quick blows into devastating attacks. Ninja's use their speed
to deal out as much damage as possible, before the enemy can retaliate. |
| Paladin |
Paladins are the 'White Knights' of Vana'diel. Paladins fight for the
greater good and believe that with the gods above to guide them, they will
drive the evil from the lands. A paladin's power is derived from his beliefs,
they are granted abilities beyond normal warriors from the gods they follow.
A paladin is capable of casting holy spells that aide him and his partners,
in battles against evil. |
| Ranger |
The Ranger is the master of ranged combat. Be it bows, or guns, the Ranger
is the only class in Vana'diel capable of putting these weapons to their
full uses. The Ranger is good at doing maximum damage over range before
entering melee combat, which helps them take as little damage as possible. |
| Samurai |
The Samurai is a warrior of legend. Samurai are known for their ability
to protect others from the evil of demons, and their finesse with weapons.
Samurai of Vana'diel are capable of dealing out mass amounts of damage due
to their abilities to use skills on minimal resources. |

will. Summoners lack offensive and defensive spells, instead, their summons
